May is Lupus Awareness Month

May is Lupus Awareness Month! Wear purple this Friday (May 18) in support of lupus awareness. The symbol of lupus awareness in the purple butterfly so I thought how better to increase awareness than crochet? What is SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus)?
SLE is an autoimmune disease that affects  more than 150,000 people in the US, 90% of whom are women. It can present in a multitude of ways affecting multiple organ systems. New treatments are available, but people with SLE still have a shortened life expectancy and the side effects of treatment can affect their quality of life (more info here).
